Make Your Exercise Tougher

personal training

I was speaking to a new personal training client yesterday who said that she’s stuck in a bit of a rut with her exercise routine and tends to do the same exercises each time and doesn’t find it particularly difficult anymore. To keep improving fitness levels it’s really important to keep your exercise varied and challenging. _W5A9523

If you do the same routine every time, here are some simple ways to push yourself just that little bit harder:

-       Add a resistance band – tie a resistance band around your thighs or ankles and you can still do all of your squats, lunges and squat jumps but with an added burn!

-       Have shorter rest periods in between each exercise – this will keep your heart rate up and give your muscles less rest

-       Add in more of a dynamic, high intensity exercise in between each exercise – do a high knee run on the spot or step ups for 30 seconds before going onto the next exercise

-       Hold a weight – grab a dumbbell, kettlebell or any weighted item that you have lying around at home and do all of your leg exercises that your would normally do but holding the weight

-       Do a set of 3 exercises one after the other that work the same muscle group – this will really fatigue those muscles and work them a lot harder e.g press ups, bench press and tricep dips

Make your exercise tougher this weekend – it will help you burn off all of those Easter eggs!

Happy Easter, hope you have a lovely weekend!
