Time Effective Exercise

general

Most of my personal training clients in Surrey have busy work schedules and family lives which can often make it feel tricky to fit in regular exercise around our personal training sessions. Here are my top tips for getting the most out of your time when exercising:

  1. Focus on intensity of exercise, not duration

High intensity interval training (HIIT) is one of the most effective ways to build strength and get in a good workout in minimal time. Short bursts of intense exercise paired with little rest periods ensure that your heart rate is kept elevated.

2. Choose compound exercises

Exercises like squats, lunges, press ups, deadlifts and pull ups target multiple big muscle groups all at once. If you’re short on time it’s better to do these instead of focusing on exercises that target smaller single muscle groups.

3. Keep it simple and consistent

Choose 3-4 simple exercises that you’re confident doing with the correct technique. Try not to overcomplicate it with more complex exercises.

4. Any exercise is better than nothing

Even squeezing in a quick 15 minute circuit session is better than doing nothing at all!
