Healthy breakfasts don’t have to be boring. Skipping breakfast is one of the worst things you can do eating wise and research has shown that those who eat breakfast are much leaner and healthier. You do need to make breakfast a priority and have one that’s going to set you up for the day and leave you feeling full to avoid sugar lows and prevent you from snacking on sugary bits before lunch. Try out some of the following ideas to mix your breakfasts up a little:
- Porridge with berries and seeds (try using nut milk instead of normal milk).
- Natural yoghurt with berries and mixed nuts.
- Cinnamon and apple porridge – add in some chopped up apple and sprinkle a teaspoon of cinnamon on top.
- Wholemeal toast with peanut butter (make sure that the peanut butter is organic and preservative free – Whole Earth do a great one).
- Scrambled egg on a slice of wholemeal toast.
- Two poached eggs on half a wholemeal bagel.
- Scrambled egg with smoked salmon and avocado slices.
- Mashed up avocado with a little bit of lemon juice, salt and pepper, served on a slice of wholemeal toast.
- Protein Smoothie – blend together 1 scoop of whey protein with 25g of frozen berries and 170ml of nut milk.
- Mushroom and spinach omelette – use two eggs, chop up some mushrooms and add in a handful of spinach.
- Oat pancakes – combine 50g ground oats with 70ml milk and cook in a non-stick frying pan. Serve with a spoonful of natural yoghurt and chopped strawberries.
- Grilled bacon, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms and scrambled egg.
- Muesli (sugar free) with blueberries and mixed seeds.
